The Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour on Nereditsa Hill near Novgorod was erected in the late 12th century.
According to the Novgorodian chronicles, the church was built in 1345, commissioned by the boyar Ontsifor Zhabin, and painted in the summer of 1380, shortly before the Battle of Kulikovo. In 1941-1943, it was completely destroyed by the Nazis.
The stone Church of St Paraskeva Pyatnitsa was built in 1207 to the north of St Nicholas’s Cathedral.
This brick four-pillar one-domed one-apse church with a cross-gable roof and a crypt was built in 1312-1313 by Archbishop David.
The convent’s history spans more than eight centuries. In the 12th century, a monk named Varlaam chose a spot for his hermitage 10 km away from Veliky Novgorod.
