The memory of the horrible tragedy that took place at the small rail junction in Lychkovo during the first months of the war still lives.
There, on 18 June 1941, Nazi planes bombed a train carrying children from besieged Leningrad. Very few children survived.
In 2005, a monument to the children who died during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) was opened in Privokzalnaya Square in Lychkovo, several metres from the site of the tragedy, for the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory.
