St Nicholas Church on Lipno is a unique monument of the late 13th century Old Russian architecture. It is located on a scenic island of Lipno at the point where the Msta River flows into Lake Ilmen.
The church was built in 1292 at the order of Archbishop Kliment of Novgorod on the site where, according to a legend, an icon of St Nicholas of Myra had been discovered. The icon floated from Kiev and healed Prince Mstislav Vladimirovich.
