The monastery is located 15 km from Veliky Novgorod. The first records of the monastery date back to the late 14th and early 15th centuries. The monastery is connected to Michael of Klopsk, who was canonised and featured in the Life of Saints, a common genre of Old Russian literature. He has become a prominent saint far beyond the Novgorodian Land.
