Description

Nil Stolobensky Chapel is an active Russian Orthodox Church in Borovichi. It is located on the bank of the Msta River near an arch bridge. In the late 19th century, there was a ferry pier and a wooden chapel dedicated to Venerable Nil Stolobensky, the founder of Nil Stolobensky Monastery on Lake Seliger in the Tver Region. The ferry pier was demolished after the bridge was built and the chapel was demolished in 1937. Local residents highly valued the water from the holy spring by the chapel. According to a legend, Peter the Great is said to have drunk from the spring. The spring was also destroyed during the Soviet times.

Between 2013 and 2014, the chapel was restored based on historical archives. A statue of Reverend Nil Stolobensky was built on the site. Stones from the original chapel were used in the construction of the new church and baptistery.

Nil Stolobensky Chapel currently stands on the exact site of the original church, in central Borovichi, by the Msta River, on the holy spring next to the Nikolai Belelyubsky Bridge.

Borovichi mariners operating in the Vyshny Volochyok waters particularly respect Nil Stolobensky. There is a chapel dedicated to him in Borovichi, near the Nikolai Belelyubsky Bridge on the Msta River, where a holy water spring is located. According to a legend, Peter the Great drank from the spring.
