Description
This miniature church was erected following a vow made during the plague in 1466. It became famous for its unusual 15th century frescoes made by local artists serving at the archbishop's court. They represent the Athos-Jerusalem Menologion, or the church calendar. The frescoes need to be read clockwise, starting from September 1. About 430 figures depicting saints correspond to the days and months of the year. Every visitor is welcome to pray to their saint and enjoy the magnificent painting. Similar frescoes have only been preserved in Romania.
