The region’s vegetation is part of the southern taiga type of forest zone. For a long time Demyansk region has been famous for its dense forests, which still cover 79% of the region today. The forests, along with mineral resources such as brick, clay, sand, limestone and gravel, constitute a significant economic potential. There are 26 varieties of berries in the Demyansky District, including seven berries that are widely available: cranberry, blueberry, lingonberry, cloudberry, raspberry, bog bilberry, and wild strawberry.
In addition to berries, Demyansk forests abound with mushrooms. One of the most popular pastimes here is mushroom foraging in the beautiful peaceful forests of our region.
