About route
St Mark the Hermit lived in the 18th century in solitude in a monastery in the village of Migoloshchi. When the monastery was shut down, he moved to a small peninsula, where he built a chapel, in which he prayed until his death, and a bed of stones nearby, the remnants of which were removed by pilgrims relatively recently. Back in the early 20th century, Mark’s crown of iron was still kept at the chapel. He built another chapel near a creek on the other bank of the river. Mark was known far and wide as a man of prayer, and believers came to him for advice and blessings.
