Closing weeks the exhibition  Love Confession to Mark Larisa Novikova’s Birthday: Paintings and Theatre Play Drawings. From the Novgorod Museum Reserve

Larisa Novikova (1930-1998), Merited Artist of the Russian Federation and member of the first string of the Novgorod Branch of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. Her theatre decorations, pencil drawings and paintings were included in all the district, regional and republican exhibitions in the 1980s and 1990s. The lyricism, sincerity and deep emotions of her portraits, still lifes and landscapes impressed and brought joy to viewers. Novikova created cheerful works of art even in her declining years when she was seriously ill. Her works are on display in the museums of Moscow, St Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod, Tomsk, Petrozavodsk, Tyumen, Omsk and Arkhangelsk, and in private collections in the UK, Austria, Norway, Russia, the United States, Scotland, Switzerland and Japan.

Russian Icons of the 11th-19th Centuries, an exhibition within the framework of the Museum Doctor cycle. The exhibition New Clothes for Old Manuscripts: Restoration of Paper Manuscripts is dedicated to the restorers of the Novgorod Museum Reserve working to restore The Domostroy Household Management Code with Excerpts from the Exordium (Introduction) for April (12th-century copy). The exhibits include rare photographs of the complex process of restoring the manuscript in stages.

How Tsar Peter Came to Love the Sea, an exhibition from the collection of the Kolomenskoye-Izmailovo-Lyublino and the Novgorod museum reserves.

Travel to a miniature country 0+

A new exhibition featuring miniature books and literary heroes from the private collections of Lyubov Vasilyeva and Vladimir Varnayev.

The exhibition is open until 4 October 2020 from 10 am to 6 pm, except on Mondays and on the last Wednesday of the month.

Evening tour of Veliky Novgorod

An evening tour of Veliky Novgorod is a magical trip that will leave you with a more vivid impression of the city landmarks. The Novgorod Kremlin looks especially impressive at night in the bright light of numerous lamps. The tour includes the Kremlin, the Marketplace and Yaroslav’s Court.

Busy hands, quiet hearts

The exhibition will introduce you to the traditional village crafts of the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century, namely, woodworking, wheel making, furniture making, pottery, smithery, shoemaking, plaiting, weaving, cooperage, fishing, tanning, fur dressing, saddlery and other crafts.

Guests can take part in interactive tours with a workshop on spinning and weaving, souvenir felting, knitting, crocheting, nalbinding, and on making cloth dolls. Anyone can try their hand at these crafts to make their own souvenirs.

The Resounding World of Ancient Novgorod

What is music archaeology? How did medieval people perceive sounds and music? What musical instruments did they play? Guests can receive answers to these and other questions on the Resounding World of Ancient Novgorod tour, during which they can learn interesting facts about the music and musical instruments of ancient Novgorodians, which largely remain a mystery to this day.

A unique exposition of the Novgorod Land Arts and Culture Museum about the history of all local monasteries and convents. It features archival and digital pictures, other archival materials, and copies of tracing plans and frescoes.

The tour includes films about Novgorod churches and monasteries, plus paintings and drawings by local artists. Audio guides are available.

The Novgorod Land Arts and Culture Museum  has opened a new exhibition, Novgorod Geography, which is divided into three themed sections: Point on the Map, Centre of the Earth, and Streets and Intersections.

Novgorod Geography is an interactive space where you can take a walk alongside 18th century residents of Veliky Novgorod, see the details of the map Pushkin wrote about in his play Boris Godunov, and look at the blueprints of city maps from different ages. Young visitors can make a jigsaw puzzle map of 16th century Russia with exotic animals or a picture of the Novgorod Kremlin.

6 pm on 11 September: opening ceremony of the 10th season of the creative project Stopwatch

The programme includes the unveiling of a new art object, Rasping Time, in the Novmartre Art Alley and the opening of a new exhibition season at the Novgorod Contemporary Art Centre.

Visitors are invited to the Lockdown Dialogue (a video review of online Dialogue projects held during the lockdown period), Work Backwards Towards Your Goal (concerts by old Dialogue friends), and Chosen by Time (a performance by young members of the Art Foyer on the Staircase project).

Sadko Folk Rock Musical: a spectacular new interpretation of an old legend

Come join us on a journey into the world of legends on the streets of young Novgorod.

A medieval spirit, daring and rousing music, witty lyrics, and an ocean of fire and lighting effects will delight the audience. Over 40 actors, singers and dancers invite you on an adventure in search of your own melody about friendship, love and dreams.

Unique decorations and seats for the audience on the bank of the Volkhov River leave an indelible impression of ancient Veliky Novgorod, which invites guests to make new discoveries.

The next show is scheduled for 12 September at 8 pm.

The Troubadour instrumental group and members of the Novgorod Region Folk Arts Centre present an intriguing story told by a girl called Tanyusha based on the Children’s Album cycle by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Guests are also invited to choose one of the workshops to make a clay duck, a traditional bunny finger puppet, or paint a wooden magnet. The programme includes a tour of the exhibition Toptygin and Co dedicated to the bear, a traditional Russian character.

The Soroka professional group of traditional folk singing is a musical brand of Veliky Novgorod. Its bright and merry performances don’t leave the audience indifferent. The group performs at major stages in Russia and abroad, its principal performers hold the title of Merited Artist of the Republic of Crimea, and its leader Irina Fedotova is a People’s Artist of the Republic of Crimea.

Soroka will present a new programme, “Meet me in our secret place on the river,” and their popular songs.
