The annual Candle of Memory event will be held in Veliky Novgorod on the night of 22 June to mark the start of the Great Patriotic War.
From 4 to 5 am on 22 June, the participants in the event will light candles in red glass lamps at the Victory Monument to the heroic liberators of Novgorod, spelling out the word “memory” on the monument’s pedestal. You can also light your own candle for free at the Деньпамяти.рф. website.
From 11.50 am to 12.30 pm on 22 June, the nationwide Memory Marathon event will be held at Yaroslav’s Court at the obelisk commemorating Heroes of the Soviet Union Ivan Gerasimenko, Alexander Krasilov and Leontiy Cheremnov. The participants will sing the national anthem and lay wreaths and flowers at the obelisk.
The nationwide Minute of Silence will be observed at 12:15 pm. The entire nation will keep silent to remember those who did not come home from the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War.
