A T-34 tank was installed in Podberezye to mark the beginning of the Leningrad-Novgorod strategic offensive operation.
In September 1961, the tank was moved through Novgorod streets from the freight railway depot to the Novgorod Kremlin. Later it stood at the factory where equipment for movie theatres and film studios was made. In 1974, it was moved to Podberezye, where the Volkhov Front began the offensive that culminated in the liberation of Novgorod from Nazi forces.
The tank stands on a pyramid-shaped reinforced concrete pedestal. A ruined wall of a German emplacement destroyed by the tank stands on the northern side of the pedestal. A granite plaque with an inscription hangs on the wall facing the motorway.
