Description
Shcheglets is a granite boulder with Bronze Age petroglyphs. It is located 2.5 km to the north of the village of Mytno, Novgorodsky District of the Novgorod Region, on the left bank of the Vishera River. It is a stand-alone 1.5 x 2 m granite boulder. Solar signs, palm outlines and bear footprints are carved on its surface. Shcheglets is the most prominent ceremonial rock in the Novgorod Region. According to archaeologist Alexander Formozov, the petroglyphs date back to the late Bronze Age (the second or first millennium BC).
