Description

Karamelny Waterfalls is an artificial waterfall that is in fact an abandoned dam. The name, which means “caramel,” comes from the peat bog that gives the waterfall its colour. A clay path leads to the waterfall. Just like in fairytales, you mustn’t step off the path.

The road near the waterfall looks like any other road in the woods. But before the arrow-straight road between Veliky Novgorod and Shimsk was built, there used to be a major road to Pskov, from Sutoki via Menyusha and Medved. Catherine the Great travelled down that road to Pskov in the 17th century.
