Named after St Nilus, the spring is located 5 km from Poddorye, in Sokolye on the bank of the Rediya River. Legend has it that the old man stopped to rest here on his way to Staraya Russa. The kindness with which the locals treated him surprised the old man, and to thank them, he gave them a water spring.
Every year, on 9 June, Sokolye holds a local church celebration to commemorate the day when Nilus Stolobensky’s relics were uncovered. This includes a cross procession and the benediction of the spring water.
It is believed that the spring water can heal intestinal diseases. The Nilus Stolobensky’s chapel stands by the spring.
