Description

In the mid-19th century, Borovichi was an emerging industrial town with vibrant refractory and ceramic factories, thanks to its abundant fireclay deposits. It was also conveniently located between Moscow and St Petersburg. In 1877, it got a railway connection with the construction of the Uglovka-Borovichi line.

Designed by Alexander Zigerberg and built in 1876, the railway station replaced the Lystsovo Estate. The ground level consisted of first- and second-class lounges, a telegraph room and a station duty officer’s desk. The second floor included two apartments: one for the station master, and the other for his deputy. The train station used to have a garden stretching all the way down to the river.

The station plan largely follows the tracks, with most buildings situated along them, including the main building, baggage storage, the water tower, the warehouses, and the train depot.
