Church of the Assumption of Our Lady on Volotovo field

14th-century fresco paintings have survived the devastation of the Church and the Swedish occupation of 1611–1617 but were buried under the rubble in the fire during the WWII.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the Church was restored, and a part of frescoes was placed on the walls. Scholars and artists «showed» the fantastic compositions of Volotovo, and their study and restoration are being maintained to this day. It was assumed once that the painting is made by the hand of Theophanes the Greek. Eventually, it was determined that the creator of this piece of art was a Russian painter.
