Description

Staraya Russa is the only town where Fedor Dostoevsky had his manor estate. This is where such works as «Demons», «The Brothers Karamazov», Pushkin Speech and articles for «A Writer’s Diary» were written. The writer’s wife, Anna Grigorievna, founded the museum two years after his death in their house in Staraya Russa. In 1918 the house was national- ized. The newest history of the museum begins on May 4, 1981, when it was reopened. Today, the interiors and furnishings of the 19th century are recreated, with the old furniture, photographs, and books. This is the place where you can feel the extraordinary atmosphere of Dostoevsky’s time, learn about the fate of the great writer and his stay in Staraya Russa.
