The Novgorod Museum Reserve invites everyone on a tour around the Novgorod Kremlin including St Sophia’s Belfry and Yaroslav’s Court

Daily at 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm, except on except Wed

Fee: adult tickets – 400 roubles; elderly, students, schoolchildren – 300 roubles; pre-schoolers – free.

Valery Rubtsov Film Museum is the first private museum of film history in Russia. Here visitors can see hundreds of unique exhibits dedicated to the most popular art of all:

• full collection of Soviet amateur cinema equipment of the last century
• rare exhibits of the 20th century world film industry: magic lantern, film cameras, film projectors, editing tables
• all kinds of accessories, equipment, boxes and much more from the world of cinema
• newspapers, magazines, books about cinema published in various years
• photos, posters, tickets and more
• personal cinema archives of popular culture and arts activists (such as Irina Alfyorova and Alexander Abdulov)
• equipment and documents that belonged to celebrities (such as Yuri Gagarin)
• old and rare films, including reels from Soviet-era Novgorod and collections of the Novgorod Museum Reserve.

The ground floor hosts the rarest collections related to the history of cinema in the first half of the 20th century. There are several exhibitions exploring the second half of the 20th century and a cinema hall on the first floor.

There also is a new small exhibition called Projection Booth starting from 3 July 2019.

House concerts in Yuryevo

At 6 pm on 1 August (Sat) there will be a musical show by Pyotr Termen (theremin) and Viktoria Darian (keyboard) “Theremin 100: Music of the Universe.”
Pyotr Termen will perform jazz, rock hits, film scores and original improvisations on the only non-contact musical instrument on the planet, the theremin, together with Viktoria Darian (keyboards). You will hear world hits from all genres by the likes of Radiohead, Nirvana and David Bowie, Sinatra, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin, Bach, Mancini played on the theremin.

For those having trouble getting to the venue, there will be a Euroliner bus from the railway station at 5.20 pm (bus stop at the central entrance) and 5.30 pm at Sennaya Square. Transfer is free.

Sign up for the kudaDET summer recreation group held from 3 to 14 August at the Dialogue Cultural Centre.

В The Regional Arts Exhibition is open at the Novgorod Modern Arts Centre until 3 August. This year it is held in all halls on the three floors of the centre. The exhibition includes about one hundred and fifty works showcasing various genres and techniques. Painting, sculpture, and arts and crafts are exhibited in three halls. A separate room is provided for graphics. The small lecture hall is displaying works by Novgorod artist Nikolai Selikov, who passed away a few weeks ago.

The exhibition is open from 11 am to 7 pm daily except Mon and Tue.

The Vitoslavlitsy Museum of Folk Wooden Architecture – is an architectural and ethnographic open-air museum located four kilometres away from Veliky Novgorod.
The museum is open daily:
May — August — from 10 am to 8 pm (ticket offices until 7:40 pm), huts from 10 am to 6 pm; two huts from 10 am to 8 pm; September and April — from 10 am to 6 pm (ticket offices until 5:40 pm); October — March — from 10 am to 4 pm (ticket offices until 3:40 pm).

Take a ferry along the Volkhov River and Lake Ilmen! The trip is 60 to 90 minutes long. The ferry departs once daily when a large enough group has been formed. You can buy a ticket for a regular cruise only on board. Ferries depart from the Kremlin pier (to the left from the exit from the Kremlin). Ticket price: adults – 500 roubles; children under 12 years old – 300 roubles; children under 7 years old – free of charge.

Today visitors of the Museum and Culture Centre can learn the history of Village Korostyn and how the Dormition Church and En Route Palace were built thanks to copies of images and archive materials from various collections of Russian museums provided to the State Museum of the Novgorod Land Arts.

Information about Lake Ilmen and Ilmen Clint, a unique geological landmark, plays a central role there.

The Novgorod Clay Toy exhibition plays a key role on the exhibition space of the Museum and Culture Centre. There are over 500 samples of clay toys and ceramics made in the artistic and creative experimental workshop of Svyatoslav Tarasov and Yekaterina Kitayeva at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries in Veliky Novgorod.

You can also sign up for a workshop and have fun while learning with the entire family.

Enter the world of the matryoshka, the famous Russian doll: tales and reality, modern day and tradition. Folk styles and signature painting of matryoshka toys. Matryoshka is a traditional doll and at the same time a mythological artifact. Connoisseurs believe that the Russian craftsman who made these dolls remembered and knew Russian fairy tales well and incorporated the idea of searching for truth and the possibility of finding it only by “getting to the bottom of the essence” – the last figurine..

12 noon Painted Balalaika workshop
The history and tales of the Russian balalaika, the world-famous symbol of Russia. Painters of this amazing folk music instrument include some of the most famous artists of the 19th century. In the 21st century, it was painted by the famous St Petersburg group Mitki and then given to the Theatre and Music Arts Museum. Participants of the museum workshop will paint a souvenir balalaika.

12 pm Herb Doll workshop
The history of creation and existence, the tradition of making folk dolls from straw, shreds of fabric and fragrant meadow herbs. Designing a signature folk costume for a ritual doll. Encouraging interest in folk culture and design of signature expressive images of a doll-talisman-sachet.

12 noon Legend of Trilobite workshop
Travel to the world of reliquiae and the ancient realm that used to cover the Borovichsky District 300 million years ago. Make a clay “trilobite,” an extinct marine arthropod.

The exhibition explores the life of Valery Dyomin, a Borovichi musician (1942-2015) who led the folk instrument orchestra under the Culture Palace of the Borovichi Refractories Plant. Balalaikas, domras, photos of the orchestra through the years, awards, and personal keepsakes illustrate the city’s musical history.

Malovishersky Museum of Local History and Lore

The museum, founded on 19 April 1991, is located on the first floor of a two-storey brick building, an architectural landmark of the late 19th century. It is the former house of the Kurzhenkov merchant family, founders of glass plants in Malaya Vishera.

The museum has seven permanent exhibitions:
